The basic concept of Endurance first grabbed my imagination when I was ten years old. As a flatland couch-surfing suburban kid in the early-1980s, I was watching TV one day when ABC's Wide World of Sports came on the tube. I watched coverage of a race called The Leadville Trail 100. I sat transfixed as these athletes ran, walked and crawled -- GASP! -- 100 miles in the Colorado Rockies. Mind you, I was the kind of kid (like most) who dreaded the annual Mile Run in gym class. That broadcast lit a spark in me, and little did I know that 15 years later I would find myself living in Colorado, pacing a stranger through the night at that exact same race. I was hooked and would complete my first 100-miler (Leadville) the following year. Over the next two decades I notched 15 more 100-miler finishes and many more ultramarathon finish lines. Some fast, some slow. And every one of them memorable. Beginning in 2020, I began dealing with a rash of recurring running injuries. We all think we are bullet-proof, but many long races will take their toll. So I began looking for Endurance elsewhere. I found it in multi-sport races and, more specifically, triathlon. I was soon "ALL IN" and have been living the triathlon lifestyle ever since -- and still with a few trail races mixed in every year!
